SCHOOLS’ BREAK-UP DAY

To The Editor Sir,—Your report on the break-up dates of schools throughout the country is interesting. If all secondary, technical and primary schools elsewhere are closing on December 15, will the board ascertain from the acting Minister, whether or not Jbe department will this year waive the 400 nail days” clause? The Gazette definitely states that all primary schools will close on December 15, or earlier if the 400 hah days have been completed. Perhaps our member, Mr Denham, will interest himself in the matter. Then we will see whether or not the statement of the chairman means exactly what he says it does.—Yours, etc., UNIFORMITY.

November 29, 1939. [The chairman of the Southland Education Board (Mr S. Rice), to whom this letter was referred, said he had no comment to make.]
