FINE DISPLAY OF FURNITURE
ARTICLES FOR USE AT EXHIBITION
Beautiful craftsmanship is reflected in the articles of furniture which are to be shipped to Wellington for use in the Southland reception room at the Dominion Court at the Centennial Exhibition. These articles, which were made in Invercargill from Southland beech, are now on display in the lounge of Thomson and Beattie Ltd., where Southland’s first exhibition was held more than 60 years ago. Visitors to the display have been much impressed with the finished appearance of the furniture and several have suggested that after the exhibition the articles should be returned to Southland and housed in some* suitable building, such as in any centennial memorial building that may be erected. All the furniture has been made from beech wood, including curly or butt beech, and has been given to the Southland Court Committee by the following firms: Broad Small and Co., W. Smith and Co., Calder Mackay Co., George Poole and Sons, Southland Furniture Co., and George Moir and Co. The lounge has been decorated with greenery by the superintendent of the City Reserves Department (Mr B. P. Mansfield).
