Moderate Temperatures (Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, October 19. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, issued by the meteorological office, Wellington:— Moderate westerly winds freshening at times. Weather changeable, with showers in the west and on the south coast Moderate temperatures. Rather rough seas. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather fair to fine east of the ranges, otherwise rather changeable with rain at times, but falls only light and scattered in western districts of the North Island. Temperatures mild in the east and moderate elsewhere. General Situation. —A belt of high pressure is situated to the north, and 4 series of weak westerly depressions is passing in the south. Winds.—From a westerly ’ quarter, north-westerly predominating east of the ranges and south-westerly to westerly elsewhere; force mainly moderate, but strong at times in exposed positions. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough on the West Coast; slight to moderate on the east coast. Eastern Tasman Sea, fresh to strong westerly winds; seas moderate in the north and rough elsewhere. This ‘morning at one o’clock the weather was cold and clear with a light westerly wind. The barometer readings for this morning, Thursday and Wednesday have been:— This morning 29.74 in. Thursday 29.67 in. Wednesday 29.45 in.
