SCHOOL BUILDING CRITICIZED

“Class Rooms Very Drab” ARCHITECT TO SUBMIT REPORT Criticism of the condition of the interior of the Southland Boys’ High School building was expressed by Mr W. Bell at the meeting of the Southland High Schools Board yesterday afternoon. Mr Bell said that although it was a fine-looking building on the outside, the class rooms were very drab, and the plaster was falling down in places. He did not think any of the class rooms could compare in appearance with an up-to-date room in primary school. “They should be a bit more cheerful looking,” he added. It was decided to ask the architect (Mr J. J. Gough) to make a survey of the school and submit to the board an estimate of the cost of the work considered necessary. The secretary (Mr T. J. Gosling) said he thought that if they applied for 'a grant of £4OO it would cover the lot. “We have to keep the building and grounds in order if it is possible to do so,” remarked the chairman (Mr R. M. Strang). , x The secretary mentioned that the architect would put in a report as soon as he received estimates from the Public Works Department.
