WAKATIPU DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB The annual meeting of the Wakatipu Defence Rifle Club was held in the Council Chambers. Major P. Mackenzie, Messrs C. Hansen, R. Grant, E. Lowen, H. C. Buckham, H. Harris, G. D. Cochrane and D. R. Gray (secretary) were present. , The annual report stated that 'the attendance on the range for the past season had been fairly good and the shooting had been of a fairly high standard. The season closed with a membership of 20. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £6/12/11. Because there was no section team there was no competition for the Mackenzie Shield. The competitions last year resulted as follows: A grade championship, H. Mackenzie and E. Lowen tied with 102 points and will shoot off; B grade championship, J. G. Toll 102 points, F. W. Bailey (medal) lOOpts; P. Reid aggregate, C. Hansen, 204pts; service shoot, F. W. Bailey, 124nts; veteran’s prize, H. Harris; junior prize, J. S. Toll, 102pts; cadet’s prize, T. J. Toll, 89pts; president’s trophy '(Queenstown section), J. S. Toll, 225pts. Advice was received from Army Headquarters, Wellington, that until further notice issues to rifle clubs will be confined to the normal free issue. Issue on payment will not be made and grants of S A A to rifle associations are suspended. The normal free issue and the sale of rifles and rifle barrels have been suspended for six weeks from all ordnance stores because of the pressure of war business. Rifles available are the short heavy Australian barrel with a service back sight.

Regret was expressed at the resignation of the president, Mr H. Mackenzie, who did not seek re-election. The secretary was instructed to forward a letter of appreciation to Mr Mackenzie for his services.

Captain J. Mackenzie and Mrs Mackenzie were elected patrons. Officebearers were elected as follows: President, Major P. Mackenzie; deputypresident, Mr A. Simson; vice-presi-dents, Messrs H. Mackenzie, H. C. Buckham, R. N. Grant, J. H. Gordon, D. H. Cockburn and C. Hansen; auditor, Mr W. D. Warren; secretary and treasurer, Mr D. R. Gray; executive committee, president, Messrs H. Mackenzie, A. Simson, R. N. Grant, C. Hansen, E. J. Lowen; match committee, president, Messrs H. Mackenzie, C. Hansen, R. N. Grant, H. C. Buckham, E. Lowen, F. W. Bailey and the secretary; range officers, president, Messrs H. Mackenzie, Hansen, Grant, Buckham, Bailey and secretary; handicappers, president, Messrs H. Mackenzie, A. Simson and the secretary. It was decided that the subscriptions be the same as previously, 10/- and 5/for territorials.

The secretary was instructed to write to the area officer about the. Government’s cover for Rifle Clubs.

It was resolved that the secretary and Mr H. C. Buckham consider colours and badges for members of the club with power to act. A new member was nominated and accepted. The date of the opening shoot was fixed for November 11 and February 10 was set down for the Mackenzie Shield shoot on the Queenstown range. It was decided to accept an invitation for a service shoot on the Arrowtown range on October 21 between the Legion of Frontiersmen. Arrowtown and Queenstown.
