Maiden Winner
Duncannon, who so easily won the maiden event at Masterton on Thursday, at last revealed in public the ability he has shown in private. A three-year-old Inflation colt, he is out of an unraced mare, Kilcannon, who was by the Cynic horse Diogenes from the Wolawa-Wairakau mare Canyon. Both Diogenes and Canyon were raced with considerable success by Mr H. P. F. Blundell, Canyon being very fast over short courses, and Kilcannon was bred by Mr Blundell, but was later acquired for the stud by Mr J. C. Kennedy, who owns Duncannon. Canyon’s progeny at the stud were failures, but Duncannon is, recapitulating her brilliance in the second generation. Canyon was a half-sister to Missland, the dam of Land Raid and others.
