BRAWL AT FOOTBALL MATCH

PLAYER AND SPECTATOR CHARGED (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, October 12. “Football is a decent clean game and you should keep it that way,” said the Magistrate, Mr E. C. Levvey, today when as a sequel to a brawl at a League football match last month one player and one spectator were charged with fighting. The defendants were Raymond Gatehouse, a footballer and Allan Boniface, a spectator. ib-Inspector Packer said there had been trouble and Gatehouse had been ordered off early in the second half. Gatehouse took exception to a remark allegedly made by Boniface’s sister as he was leaving the field and Boniface took his sister’s part, but Miss Bates, who was with the Bonifaces, threw her arms round Boniface :• an effort to stop the fight and was knocked to the ground by a blow. Before long a general brawl ensued, resulting in the game being called off. Each was fined 20/-.
