The Cardinal
The failure of The Cardinal to make the first acceptance in the New Zealand Cup was something of a shock to Auckland supporters. There is nothing wrong with the Night Raid gelding, the reason for his absence from the Riccarton list being that he is to be taken aldng quietly, although he may fulfil his Mitchelson Cup engagement. He had a rather difficult time of it at two and three years and his condition at times gave anxiety.
