DAIRY INDUSTRY OFFERS AID

FULL CO OPERATION WITH GOVERNMENT

METHOD OF INCREASING FOOD PRODUCTION

(United Press Association)

WELLINGTON, September 14. It was desirable that the dairy industry should know that representations had been made to the Government and what action was likely to be taken’so that the present uncertainty could be overcome said the chairman of the Dairy Board (Mr W. E. Hale) today. Mr Hale said that last week there had been held in Wellington a meeting of the dairy industry council. The council had met the Minister of Marketing (the Hon. W. Nash) and, on behalf of the industry, had assured him of its full co-operation with the Government in. all measures designed to assist the Mother Country during the war. It was also suggested that all questions previously in dispute between the Minister and industry be held in abeyance until after the conclusion of hostilities.

lire members had also outlined their views about what the arrangements for the price to be paid to farmers this season should be and what they considered would be the best method of dealing with the dairy industry under the present changed conditions so that the industry could give greater assistance in increasing food production.

Mr Nash had said the whole of New Zealand’s dairy produce would be sold to the Imperial Government, with whom the New Zealand Government was now in touch.

“ft may take some time to complete those negotiations,” added Mr Hale, “but as soon as they are completed the Minister will make a full announcement.” -■
