MISS E. McDONALD BIDDEN FAREWELL

DIPTON LOSES POPULAR RESIDENT The Dipton public hall was crowded when a farewell social and dance was held in honour of Miss E. McDonald, who is leaving to live in Invercargill. Those contributing items were: Song, Mrs Lindsay; recitation, Master Ross Lindsay; duet, Misses B. and M. McRae; solos, Mr R. Mitchell. Mr D. Shand was master of ceremony and music for the dance was supplied by Mrs Dykes and Mr Bailey, South Hillend. At the supper interval Mr W. Mcßae, the chairman, called on various speakers to make presentations to the departing guest. Mr T. Nevin, in making the presentation of . a travelling rug to the guest of honour, spoke of the many fine qualities, and the popularity of Miss McDonald, who had been actively associated with most organizations in the district. Mr J. Hall, speaking on behalf of the Dipton Hockey Club, said Miss McDonald had held the position of secretary of the club for a number of years, and as a player had been the mainstay of the team. Mr Hall asked Miss McDonald to accept a suitcase from the club. , Mrs J. S. McDonald, on behalf of the Women’s Division, spoke of the assistance given to the branch by Miss McDonald and expressed regret at her departure. Miss McDonald was presented with a box of linen handkerchiefs from the members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Mr R. Colyer, president of the Dipton Badminton Club, spoke of Miss McDonald’s activities as a foundation member of the Badminton Club and of the help given in her capacity as secretary since the formation of the club four years ago. In asking Miss McDonald to accept a crystal vase, he wished her success. Mrs L. Whitaker, speaking for the Moana Tennis Club, referred to the fine qualities of the guest of honour and asked her to accept a crystal scent bottle. Mr W. Mcßae, president of the Miniature Rifle Club, said Miss McDonald was one of the best shots among the women members of the club and she would be missed at the weekly shoots. He presented her with a fountain pen and a box of initialled stationery from her fellow members of the Dipton Rifle Club.
