Mrs C. R. Story, Venlaw, is spending a few days with her sister Mrs A. R. Dunlop, Ramrig street. Mr and Mrs J. J. Corby, whose marriage took place early this week, arrived in Invercargill from the north yesterday.

Mrs R. Traill has returned to Stewart Island after being the guest of Mrs W. G. Oliver, Holywood Terrace for a few days. Mrs C. C. Jennings, who is visiting her daughter Mrs A. H. Robins, Beatrice street, will return to Christchurch early next week.

Miss Winnie Meffin, who has been the guest of Miss Zena Ridder, Papatotara, has returned to her home in Invercargill.

Mrs E. H. Pike, Winton, has returned from a visit to her sister, Mrs Neville Seay, “Mt. Dalgety,” Fairiie, and Mrs Earl White, Totara Valley. The marriage of Miss Juliet Kain, Gladstone Park, Orari, to Mr B. Pinckney, Gleneagles, Southland, will take place at Orari, on September 27.

CRIPPLED CHILDREN SOCIETY

MEETING OF WOMEN’S AUXILIARY A meeting of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Crippled Children Society was held in the Women’s Club rooms recently. Those present were Mesdames F. M. Corkill (chairman), G. B. Orbell, H. R. Gibson, Matthews, J. R. Hanan, J. G. Macdonald, Wesney, W. H. Boyes, C. E. Watts, Miss Gilkison and Sister Janet. Mrs Corkill welcomed Mrs Gibson to the auxiliary. Mrs Boyes was elected to the auxiliary executive committee. Sister Janet reported that in reply to an advertisement a chair was given by Mrs Slocomb for the use of a crippled child. Two other offers of chairs were received. The society will be grateful to accept these as the need arises.

A letter was received from one of the children thanking the society for books sent her.

It was reported that the children under the care of the society had been taken to the pantomime, “Jack and the Beanstalk,” and were delighted with the performance. The meeting expressed the warm gratitude of the society to Cousin Wendy for the free seats which were allotted to them; also to the St. John Ambulance Society, Mr Brooklands and others who arranged the transport of the children, and to Mr Young who further added to the children’s treat by supplying them with ice cream.

Dr Irwin reported new cases at Orepuki, Waihopai, Tuatapere and Pahia. These will be examined at the next clinic.

Progress of a case at Otautau, and one at Ohai was reported satisfactory. Arrangements are, being made to send four children to the holiday home for crippled children at Clyde. Members reported on cases under their individual care.

A recommendation was sent forward to the executive committee that one case be given tuition in dressmaking.
