SUCCESSFUL YEAR EXPERIENCED ANNUAL MEETING OF GORE TROTTING CLUB “The club experienced another very successful year,” said Mr G. Lindsay in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet at the annual meeting of the Gore Trotting Club-last night. “The stakes were increased,” he said, “and a total of £l6OO was given.” The response of the owners and trainers indicated that the club’s programme had been approved. Mr Lindsay said that the nominations and acceptances for the club’s meeting had been .excellent. The weather had been favourable and the gate receipts luffl been a record for the club. The totalizator turnover of £19,793/10/was the highest since 1920. The bal-ance-sheet showed a very satisfactory state of affairs and the club had a credit balance of £5OOO. The war would perhaps upset the club’s plans for the coming year, but he hoped that the club would be able to carry out its programme.

There was a big attendance of members at the meeting, Mr Lindsay being chairman.

The report and ’ balance-sheet were adopted. The following office-bearers were elected: President, Mr D. F. Tait; vicepresidents, Messrs W. L. Scott and W. R. Jones; committee, Messrs T. A. Fleming, G. Lindsay, F. Lynch, W. L. McGoldrick, J. C. Ray and J. Reid; auditor, Mr W. D. Shelton. In moving a recommendation to the incoming committee that acceptance fees be reduced to £l, Mr G. W. Whittingham said that if the club wanted to help owners it had the chance to do it. The club had £5OOO in hand and he considered that the owners should be given more consideration. Only eight owners could win at the club’s meeting and he thought that if the club reduced its fee for acceptances its action would be appreciated. The Gore Racing Club had charged £1 for acceptances for a number of years and had not lost anything by it. Mr W. L. McGoldrick supported Mr Whittingham’s recommendation and stated that the club was in a position to afford a reduction in acceptance fees. Mr R. Matthews gave, notice to move at the next annual meeting that postal voting be introduced. McCARTEN TO RIDE BEAU VITE LIGHT EXERCISE FOR DEFAULTER SYDNEY, September 13. M. McCarten will ride Beau Vite in the A.J.C. Derby. This decision was reached by the toss of a coin with the New Zealand jockey A. E. Ellis, resulting' in McCarten winning. Beau Vite’s owner, Mr Stewart has been in a dilemma concerning the rider. He desired to be loyal to Ellis but realized McCarten’s greater knowledge of Australian conditions was a big factor' in a classic Derby. Beau Vite has thrived since his arrival here. He galloped an easy mile at Randwick today and could not be faulted.

Defaulter today was given the lightest of exercise with the off foreleg heavily encased in an antiphlogistine poultice. He walked soundly enough but was not even trotted or cantered. Some days will elapse before- any attempt is made to gallop him.
