BIGGER ENTRY IN FAT CATTLE SECTION

The sale for fat sheep was very bright at the weekly Lorneville stock sale yesterday and values improved to the extent of about 3/- a head for all classes. Country butchers and representatives of northern interests bid keenly. The fat cattle section was much bigger and the quality also improved considerably. Good quality bullocks brought prices which were slightly firmer than was the case last week. In the store cattle section only 21 beasts were yarded, compared with 56 the previous week. STORE SHEEP The yarding of store sheep was not a big one, but the quality of the animals was better than was the case the previous week. Full-mouthed breeding ewes made from 20/- to 22/-, failingmouthed ewes 12/- to 15/-, cull sorts down to 6/-. A pen of 4-tooth forward wethers brought 24/6, while m.s. hoggets made from 13/- to 15/6. A good pen of ewe hoggets realized 32/-. The Southland Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Ltd. sold:—Account R. Anderson (Lorneville), 44 f.m. ewes at 22/-. Client, 30 wethers at 16/-. STORE CATTLE In the store cattle section there was a very light yarding, which did not comprise any good cattle. Empty cows sold up to £5, cull sorts £l/15/- to £2/10/-, yearling heifers £2/10/- to £3/10/-. No steers were yarded, but the sale was a good one considering

the quality. There was a big entry of dairy cattle. Many of the animals offered were light
