Continuing Cool • and Changeable
(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, August 15. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, issued by the meteorological office, Wellington:— Moderate to fresh winds from a westerly quarter. Weather still cool and changeable, with occasional rain or hail showers and bright intervals. Sea moderate. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather fine east of the ranges from Otago to Hawke’s Bay; elsewhere still changeable, with ‘occasional showers and bright intervals; some thunderstorms possible; snow showers on the ranges. Temperatures milder in the north and cool in the south, with frosts to- x night.
General Situation.—Pressure is high to tlie north and low in the south and t. series of shallow westerly depressions continues to cross the Dominion. Winds.—Between south-west and north-west, moderate to strong and rather squally in exposed positions, especially in the north, but otherwise light to fresh. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rough north of Farewell Spit and rather rough thence southwards; moderate on the east coast, but rather rough offshore. Eastern Tasman Sea, fresh to strong winds from a westerly quarter; rather rough to rough seas.
The Weather in Invercargill yesterday was wet. The day was fairly mild but it became cold in the late evening.. At one o’clock this morning the weather was cold and a light easterly wind was blowing.
