BALFOUR CALEDONIAN SOCIETY

DECISION TO ABANDON SPORTS THIS YEAR There was an attendance of only seven members at the annual meeting of the Balfour and Longridge Caledonian Society (Inc.) Because of the president, being indisposed, Mr J. N. Alexander, vice-president, presided. The question of holding a sports meeting during the coming season was discussed and, on the motion of Messrs D. Alexander and E. W. Stevens, it was decided that, because of lack of public interest, no sports be held this season. There were present at the meeting: Messrs E. W. Stevens, R. Grant, J. Liddell, D. M. Alexander, R. L. Grant and the secretary. The annual report (already published) and the balance-sheet were adopted. The secretary was instructed to forward letters of sympathy to Messrs D. Casey and A. P. Scobie. The election of ' office-bearers resulted: President, Mr J. N. Alexander; patron, Mr Alexander Stewart; vicepresidents, Messrs J. Liddell and D. M. Alexander; committee, Messrs E W. Stevens, R. Grant, R. L. Grant, with power to add. YOUNG PEOPLE’S DANCE There was a large attendance at a meeting of the Young People’s Dance Committee. Several tenders for the supply of music were received and it was decided to engage Yeo’s PianoAccordion Band. It was decided that the supper be run on the same lines as previous years. The following officials for the dance were appointed: Doorkeepers, Messrs R. Grant, E. W. Stevens and A. Rasmussen; masters of ceremony, Messrs S. Keown, D. Higgins, D. Dillon and L. Liddell.
