YOUNG WOMAN DIES FROM INJURIES

MOTORING ACCIDENT IN EARLY MORNING (United Press Association) MASTERTON, August 10. A tragic motor smash occurred near Carterton between 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock this morning, as a result of which Eleanor Irene Stubbs, second daughter of Mrs Stubbs and the late Mr A. F. Stubbs, of Carterton, was fatally injured, and Warren Burling, aged 18, a son of Mr and Mrs C. A. Burling, of Akura, was seriously injured. The car, driven by Warren Burling, with Miss Stubbs as passenger, was proceedings southward to Carterton and a lorry, owned by J. Brenley, of Masterton, who was a passenger in the vehicle, and driven by T. Ronald, was proceeding to Masterton behind another vehicle. It appears that Burling’s car had passed the first motor-vehicle when a collision occurred with Brenley’s lorry. The car appears to have struck the lorry behind the driver’s seat. Miss Stubbs died on the way to the hospital at Carterton. Burling was seriously injured and was removed to hospital. CYCLIST KILLED (United Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, August 10. Thomas Farrell, aged 38, a single man belonging to Stratford, was killed at Stratford .ast night when he fell from his bicycle while riding downhill carrying an attache case. It appears that he free-wheeled down a short hill and caught his knee when he resumed pedalling This evidently jammed the handlebars, throwing him to the road. He suffered head injuries which are believed to have caused almost instantaneous death.
