Wright, Roxburgh, will return tomorrow. Miss Nona Pinckney, who has been the guest of Mrs Russell Ritchie, Dunedin, returned to Glenary last night. Mrs N. G. Simpson, who has been staying with her mother, Mrs Clark, has returned to her home at Anderson’s Bay, Dunedin. Mrs W. L. Cunningham, Castle Downs, returned on Thursday from Dunedin, where she attended the Otago Jockey Club’s meeting. Mrs K. G. Groves and her son John, of Grove Bush, Masterton, and Mrs J. S. Hiddleston and Miss Vida Hiddleston arrived by car last evening to be guests of Mrs H. R. Gibson, Don street. News has been received by friends in Invercargill that Mr and Mrs Horace Macalister and their two daughters have taken a flat in Bayswater, Lon-

don. They expect to remain there until June 20, when they will leave to spend six weeks on the Continent. After that they plan to tour England, Scotland and Wales by car. Miss Audrey Roberts, Dunedin, whose marriage takes place next week, was entertained at a gift evening by Miss Aliena Collie, Otautau, and Miss Zoe Smith. Those friends who met to wish happiness to Miss Roberts were: Mesdames S. Smith, H. Holland; Misses E. Marshall, D. Ritchie, N. Buchanan, D. and M. Stapleton, L. Strang, A. Collie and Z. Smith. The programme was as fol-* lows: Pianoforte duet, Miss Sylvia Porteous and Miss Jean Cockerill; song, Miss Joyce Lee; violin solo, Miss Florence Smith; song, Miss May Dalrymple; pianoforte solo, Miss Dulcie Downes; violin solo, Miss Winnie Shiels; song, Miss Marjorie Macdonald; pianoforte duet, Miss Dulcie Downes and Miss Jean Cockerill.

WOMEN’S DIVISION AT RIMU CELEBRATION OF FIFTH BIRTHDAY There was a big attendance of visitors and residents at the Rimu hall on Wednesday evening to celebrate the fifth birthday of the Rimu branch. 1116 hall was decorated with green and pink streamers to correspond with the decorations on the cake. In extending a welcome to the public the president of the Rimu branch apologized for the absence of visitors from the Woodlands branch and the provincial president, Mrs Orr (Balfour). She welcomed visitors from the Mokotua, Ryal Bush, Grove Bush, Wallacetown and Invercargill divisions, also Long Bush, Woodend and Kennington Women’s Institutes. The two-tiered cake, which was made and given by Mrs Emerson and had been decorated by Mrs .J. Crombie (Kennington), was piped in by Mr J. Waddell, jun., while two small girls, Edna Smaill and Dawn Bulling, wheeled it round the hall. The candles were then lit by Dawn Bulling and blown out by Edna Smaill. Mrs Cameron then called on the youngest member of the branch, Miss J. Emerson, to cut the cake. Items were given by Messrs Duff brothers, Curry brothers and Mrs T. Phillips, J. The novelty dances were won by Miss Madeline Cockbum and her partner (Monte Carlo), Miss Imelda Moylan and her partner (lucky spot). Mr J. Moylan played an extra and Mr G.
