GOVERNMENT SECURITIES QUIET ON INVERCARGILL EXCHANGE

Government securities were quiet with more sellers than buyers on the Invercargill Stock Exchange yesterday. The inquiry for banks was limited and unchanged. Nationals were asked for at £2/6/6 and New Zealand D issue at £l/6/9. Pastoral shares were dull. Overseas mining stocks were inactive and industrials were inclined to be quiet. Sales of New Zealand Drugs at £3/7/3, Southland Frozen Meats at £l/7/6 and Government stock, 4 per cent., 1949, at £9B/12/6, were reported.

The lamb market continues strong and prices generally have further advanced. Consumption is satisfactory. Wethers and ewes are firmer with improved demand. Frozen beef is steady with fair trade, but chilled beef is weaker this week because of hot weather and heavy supplies. Trade in New Zealand porker pigs is slow with prices nominal.
