WOMEN APPLICANTS FOR BENEFITS
EMBARRASSING NATURE OF QUESTIONS (Special to The Times) AUCKLAND, June 8. The need for the employment of a woman to interview at the placement service and youth centres women, and girls who are applicants for employment or social security benefits is exercizing several women’s societies in Auckland. Besides applicants for employment at these offices girls and women who apply for social security benefits must first register as unemployed, and as part of the procedure they are questioned on many aspects. No complaint is made against the interrogation officers personally, but it is felt that this work should be done by women, as sometimes the necessarily intimate nature of the questioning is embarrassing to applicants.
