WYNDHAM
VITAL STATISTICS The vital statistics for Wyndham for the month of May, with those for the corresponding period in 1938 shown in parentheses, are as follows: —Birth 2 (3), deaths 1 (1), marriages 2 (2). EUCHRE PARTY The fortnightly euchre parties in aid of St. Kevin’s church were begun on Monday evening in the Masonic hall and attracted a big crowd. The winners were as follows:—Women: Mrs Casey 1, Mrs L. Kennedy 2; men: Mr T. Morris 1, Mr R. Dermody 2; consolation: Miss N. Munro and Mr J. McGlinchy; hidden number: Miss B. Taylor. POST OFFICE BUSINESS The Wyndham post office conducted a great deal of extra business during May with motor registrations, social security payments and quarterly levies. The figures for the month, with those for the corresponding period last year given in parentheses, are as follows: — Motor registrations 265 (238), social security payments 357 (257), levies 814 (536). The demand for social security charge forms and income tax returns exceeded the supply at the post office, with the result that further supplies will not be available until some time next week. HERD TESTING Mr G. T. McNally, stock inspector, at Wyndham, is at present engaged in testing dairy herds for tubercular disease, and dairy farmers in the district are now paying more attention to trying to eradicate the disease. So far Mr McNally has put about 700 cows through the test this season. MILK SUPPLY Milk is still being taken in daily at the Wyndham dairy factory, but it is expected that it will be taken in on every second day from next week. There has been an increased intake at most district factories this season, as at this time last year the Wyndham Dairy Factory had for some time past been taking in-the supply every second day.
