BAKER’S EYE INJURY GIVES TROUBLE NOT AVAILABLE FOR BOUT ON JUNE 19 Because of the eye injury suffered by him in his bout with Les Adams being reopened in a training spar on Wednesday night, R. Baker, who was engaged by the Southland Boxing Association to fight in Invercargill on June 19 has had to withdraw. He will not be available to box until early next month. The association has decided to conduct an open and novice amateur tournament on June 19. In addition it is trying to arrange a professional welterweight contest for the same programme. Don Johnson, of Auckland, has agreed to fight in Invercargill, and yesterday the association was trying to match him with Les Adams. Johnson has gained victories this season over Vic Caltaux (Auckland) and Merv. Willis, the former welterweight champion of Queensland, and fought Billy Parris to a close decision at Dunedin. He and Adams would make a good draw. Even if the association cannot arrange a professional contest for June 19 it will carry out its amateur programme and will stage special bouts. Already several entries have been received by the secretary of the association, Mr F. H. Hughes. FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE WON BY GREANEY (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, June 8.
