Rules Which Will Repay Study
The following excerpts from the laws of the game will repay study by all players, whether senior or junior: The Penalty Kick.— ' 1. The penalty kick shall be taken from the penalty mark, 12 yards from the goal line. 2. All players, with the exception of the man taking the kick and the goal ■ keeper of the defending side, shall be outside the penalty area, within the field of play, and at least 10 yards from the ball. Players need not necessarily be behind the ball. 3. The player taking the kick shall not kick the ball until the referee has given the signal. 4. The defending goalkeeper shall stand on his own goal line, between the posts, and shall not move from the position he takes up until the ball has been kicked. 5. The ball shall be kicked forward. 6. The kicker shall not play the ball a second time until it has been touched or played by another player. If the ball hits the goal post or bar and rebounds into play, the player who took the penalty kick shall not play it again until it has been touched by another player. 7. If necessary, time of play shall be extended, either at half time or full time, to allow a penalty kick to be taken. 8. It does not matter in what part of the field the ball is, so long as it is in play, if the offence is committed in the penalty area, a penalty kick shall be given. Punishment.— 1. If a player of the defending team infringes, the kick shall be retaken if a goal has not been scored. 2. If a player of the attacking team, other than the player taking the kick, infringes, the kick shall be retaken if a goal has resulted. 3. If the player taking the penalty kick infringes, an indirect free kick shall be awarded to the opposing team from the spot where the infringement occurred.
