Very Cold Temperatures ..(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, May 26. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, issued by the meteorological office, Wellington:— Strong but gradually decreasing south-west to southerly winds, turnins at times to west or north-west. Weather showery at times, especially on the coast, but for the most part fair: very cold temperatures; seas rather rough to rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather changeable with showers at times, relatively few, however, in Canterbury and on the west coast of the South Island; conditions probably becoming fair to fine during Saturday in much of the country, but the improvement more gradual in the far north and south and between Wellington and East Cape. Cold temperatures. General Situation.—The recent depression has moved eastward off the North Island, but is being followed by weak secondaries. A very intense anticyclone is, however, advancing from the west. Winds—Fresh to strong southwesterlies to southerlies prevailing, but temporarilv turning to north-westerly in parts of the South Island. Seas—ln New Zealand waters, rather rough to rough, but decreasing later north of East Cape and South of Farewell Spit. Eastern Tasman sea, strong south-west to south winds, reaching gale force at times in the central and southern portions, but later decreasing. Seas rough.

The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine, but cold. Rain fell in the early morning and again in the evening.
