BROKEN HILLS RISE SHARPLY ON INVERCARGILL EXCHANGE

Chief item of interest on the Invercargill Stock Exchange yesterday was the sharp rise in Broken Hill Proprietaries, buyers moving up to £3/9/-. Australian Consolidated Industries were also firmer. Banks generally showed little change but Nationals had a hardening tendency. Metal shares were firmer, inquiry for Broken Hill Souths moving up to £l/8/6. Electrolytic Zincs were also very firm. The bonds market showed little change.

The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board advises that the following are the approximate average prices realized for the week based on actual transactions, wholesale quantities and descriptions of meat mentioned and for representative parcels of goods offering during the week being for business done on the basis of delivery to Smithfield market and ex-London stores

The lamb market continues firm, prices generally being better and the consumption good. Wethers and ewes are meeting with a little better demand with prices firmer. Frozen beef is firm and chilled beef is steady for hindquarters but weaker for fores. Prices are firmer for New Zealand porker pigs on shorter supplies and slightly firmer for New Zealand baconers. There is good trade and better prices for boneless bobby veal.
