NO ANXIETY OVER QUEEN MARY

PAINFUL EYE INJURY TELEPHONE TALKS WITH FOUR SONS (United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright) LONDON, May 24. An official bulletin on the condition of Queen Mary, who was involved in an accident when a Royal car capsized after a collision with a lorry yesterday, says: “Queen Mary passed a restless night, partly because of an injury to the left eye which, though painful, is causing no anxiety. Her general condition is satisfactory.” Sir Richard Cruise, an eye specialist, visited her last night and again this morning. An X-ray on Queen Mary was carried out this afternoon. There were continuous inquiries about her health and a long cable message was received from the King and Queen. Another medical statement is expected tomorrow. Continued rest will be necessary for a few days. The following official medical report was issued from Marlborough House tonight: “Queen Mary’s progress is taking a satisfactory course, though stiffness and pain are troublesome. The X-ray examination excludes any damage to bones. The condition of the eye is improving.” An Independent Cable Service message says that Queen Mary last night spoke by telephone to the Duke of Windsor, the Duke of Kent and the Duke of Gloucester. She sent a cable message to the King and Queen assuring them that they need not feel the slightest alarm and that her injuries were very’ slight. Queen Mary also specially inquired whether her chauffeur, O. Humphrey, who was also King George V’s chauffeur, was feeling any after-effects of the accident. The windows of the Royal car were splintered and the glass screen between the passengers and the driver was broken. The near-side wings were crushed and the running-board was ripped away. The near-side back wheel was knocked off.
