WOMAN’S CLAIM FOR DAMAGES

COLLISION BETWEEN CAR AND LORRY (United Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. May 25. When the motor-car in which she was travelling collided with a lorry near Okaiawa on October 13, Miss Susan Biggs suffered a compound fracture of the skull and her lef* arm was so badly injured that it had to be amputated. The sequel was a claim for £5OOO general and £52/16/- special damages brought against George Edward Woodhead, a lorry driver, in the Sunreme Court today. Miss Biggs, according to her counsel, was a passenger in the car which collided with the lorry, which backed out across the road in the face of oncoming traffic. She received the full force of the impact Her arm had to be amputated above the elbow and a piece of skull, the size of a shilling, was removed from the brain. Most of the day was occupied by medical evidence about the effect of the injuries upon the plaintiff, who is 53 years of age. The action, which is being heard by Mr Justice Ostler and a jury, will conclude tomorrow.
