Cold and Changeable

(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, May 24. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, issued by the meteorological office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong south-west to westerly winds. Weather cold and changeable, with occasional rain. Seas rather rough to rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather cloudy to overcast, with rain at first, mainly in districts with a westerly aspect, but gradually becoming fairly general. Some snow on the ranges. Temperatures colder tomorrow. General Situation.—A depression is now moving from the Tasman Sea on to the Dominion and slight secondaries appear to be following it. An intense anti-cyclone is approaching southeastern Australia. Winds. —Moderate to strong northerly to north-westerly winds, reaching gale force in a few exposed positions. A change to south-westerlies probable shortly in the south and becoming general within 24 to 36 hours. Seas. —New Zealand waters, slight to moderate at first on most of the East Coast south of East Cape, otherwise rather rough to rough; eastern Tasman Sea, strong northerly winds at first in eastern areas, but otherwise south-westerlies prevailing; seas rather rough to rough.
