DEBATING SOCIETY
The weekly meeting of the Woodlands Literary and Debating Society was held in the hall. The evening took the form of an impromptu club debate. The subject, which was given by the 1 judge, Mr McCaw, was “That the modern discoveries and inventions are beneficial to mankind.” The affirmative was taken by the following: Messrs A. Roseveare (leader), L. Middlemiss, E. Trotter and W. Barraclough. The negative side consisted .of Messrs J. Campbell (leader), H. Piercy, E. Tresidder and M. O’Toole. Mr McCaw gave his decision in favour of the affirmative. A vote of thanks to the judge was proposed by Mr Arnold Roseveare and carried by I acclamation.
