GOOD POULTRY DISPLAY

ANNUAL SHOW IN INVERCARGILL N.Z. Championship Event KEEN COMPETITION The twenty-ninth annual show of the Invercargill Poultry, Pigeon, Canary and Pets Club attracted slightly more entries than last year, a very big and representative display of poultry being benched. The show opened yesterday in the Victoria Hall and in the afternoon and evening many persons inspected the display. The show will be open today. The general opinion of the judges was that the quality of the birds exhibited was, generally, very high. The judges had a very difficult task in some classes as the competition was particularly keen. The fact that one New Zealand and several South Island championships were contested added a great deal of interest to the show. The New Zealand championship was for Indian Runner, ducks and drakes, and was won by J. Calvert, who had many other successes. Perhaps, the outstanding entry was forwarded by Mr L. Soper, of Athol. This exhibitor sent in about 80 birds for display, in the fancy pigeon section. Mr Soper is stated to be one of the biggest breeders and exhibitors of fancy pigeons in New Zealand. His entries included two Fairy Swallows, a very rare fancy breed, not before exhibited in Invercargill. Mr Soper won many awards.

The judges, Messrs R. C. Wilson, C. Fallowfield, S. Lindsay, J. Peters and R. Hodge, had a very busy morning judging the many sections but the awards were made in good time. The succes of the show was commented on by several speakers, the efficient staging of the exhibits being remarked upon. A short toast list was
