Because of the retirement of Mr C, F. A. Jones, manager of the South British Insurance Company, Ltd., at Invercargill, Mr G. S. Warwick, of the Dunedin staff, has been appointed manager at Invercargill as from June I. Mr Warwick’s position in Dunedin will be filled by the promotion of Mr J. A. Allen.—Times Special Service.

The Hon. J. Dash, Minister of Transport in the Queensland Government, left Wellington on Thursday for the South Islapd. He was accompanied by Mrs Dash and Miss D. Dash. Mr G. K. Nicolson, who has been an assistant teacher on the staff of the South school for the past five years end a-half has been appointed first secondary assistant at the Alexandra District High School. Mr Nicholson will take up his appointment at the beginning of the new term. The Rev. B. N.Eade arrived from the north by the express last evening. Mr Eade has spent 12 years in East Bengal in the New Zealand Baptist Missionary Society. He will preach in Baptist churches on Sunday and on Monday evening will address a public meeting.

Mr William Machin, general manager of the New Zealand Farmers’ Cooperative Association, of Canterbury, Ltd., since 1926, has announced that he will retire on October 31 this year.

Major-General P. J. Mackesy, of the British Army, who is preparing a report upon the land defence of New Zealand, arrived from Wellington by air on Thursday, accompanied by Major G. H. Clifton, Headquarters Staff, and proceeded to Whangarei to inspect the camp of the Ist Composite Mounted Rifles Regiment.

Mr D. W. Woodward, secretary of the Bureau of Industry, has been awarded a Commonwealth Service Fellowship to study public administration and industrial planning in the United States of America. Mr Woodward expects to be away for about two years. Mr H. Rochfort, of Wanganui, has arrived in Christchurch to take up his duties as principal of the new Christchurch South Intermediate School. Mr A. W. Britton, of Hastings, has taken up duties as pilot instructor to the Marlborough Aero Club. A member of the Hawke’s Bay and East Coast Aero Clubs, Mr Britton has nearly 400 flying hours to his credit, and recently qualified for his instructor's licence.
