COUSIN BETTY’S LETTER
My dear Cousins, The first week of the holidays has flown past, and soon visiting days will begin again. Percy Pencil says he has been missing you, and wants to tear a whole week from the calendar so that school will start on Monday. Do you want that to happen? If we could arrange time as easily as that, I think you would be. eager to make the holidays longer, not shorter. Sally Staircase says that she does not mind if you do make next week longer, for she is having a welcome rest. Those cousins who sent in six or seven entries for the limerick competition will notice that I have allowed marks for only two extra entries. I really think that three from one person are enough, although I know that they are very “more-ish,” and once you have begun to make them up you feel like going on and on as fresh ideas and rhymes pop into your head. Next time you have a party hold a limerick competition, and see how popular it is with your friends. The coupon for pen-friends is in the Chronicle this morning, so if you have not done so already, fill it in, and post with a STAMPED, ADDRESSED envelope to me. Out of a big pile of coupons last week only two were without the ’ stamped addressed envelope. This time see if everyone can remember. One of my Little Southlanders from the country brought a great big new idea with her.when she came to see me during the week. It is a bazaar idea, and one of the best I have heard. She says that she, with some help from other cousins, will decorate a barrow, to be laden with farm products and vegetables, and wheeled around the hall in search of customers. Percy thinks she will not need to do any wheeling, for the customers will come in search of the barrow. Each week your ideas are bigger, better, and brighter, cousins of mine. I wonder what the next one will be? Your loving,
