EDUCATIONAL VISIT TO DUNEDIN
SOUTHLAND CHILDREN RETURN TODAY
The party of 66 school children and six teachers from Central Southland schools, which has been visiting Dunedin, will leave on the return journey this morning. ?The party has been carrying out a comprehensive programme of considerable educational value to the pupils, all of whom are members of boys’ and girls’ clubs. The party on Wednesday visited the factory of the New Zealand Wax Vesta Company and later went to the Early Settlers’ Hall, where the children were shown the many interesting articles and exhibits dealing with the early days of the province. About midday the party saw the Otago University students’ capping procession leave from Union street, and early in the afternoon attended an arts and crafts display in the Intermediate school. Subsequently the visitors were divided into two groups, the girls being shown over Gregg and Company’s factory while the boys were taken to inspect the Central Fire Station and McLeod Brothers’ soap works. Yesterday the members of the party visited the Otago Museum and the Town Hall and later were taken to the fertilizer works at Ravensbourne. They will leave their quarters in the Forbury school this morning and will begin the return journey by bus, making a stop for half an hour at Green Island to visit the Otago Iron Rolling Mills. Those in charge of the party are thoroughly satisfied with the success of the visit and are deeply grateful for the assistance and kindness shown the members of the party in Dunedin. Not only have the educational arrangements for the visit been very complete, but the entertainment side of the programme has been excellent.
