GOVERNMENT RETAINS SEAT
13 LOST SINCE GENERAL ELECTION (Received May 11, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 11. The by-election for the Hallam seat resulted:— R. Jennings (Conservative) 16,033 C. S. Darvill (Labour ) 9,939 Of the 67 by-elections since the General Election, the Government parties have lost 10 to Labour and three to Independents.
The result of the poll at the General Election in 1935 was:— L. W. Smith (Conservative) 21,298 Miss G. Colman (Lab.) 10,346
