QUEENSTOWN’S MAYOR TO RETIRE

LEAVING DISTRICT TO LIVE IN CHRISTCHURCH Mr W. H. Overton, Mayor of Queenstown, has announced his intention of resigning from the office as from tomorrow- He and. his family are about to leave Queenstown. They will live in Christchurch. Mr Overton has lived in Queenstown since 1912. He was elected to the Queenstown Borough Council in 1919 and. for the last 12 years has occupied the office of Mayor. He has been associated with the public life of the town in practically all its branches, and in addition to serving on the council, was the member for the district on the Bluff Harbour Board and a member of the Central Otago Licensing Committee, the Queenstown Progressive League, the School Committee and the Queenstown Carnival Association. His services will be recognized at a public farewell function in Queenstown on Wednesday night.
