MINIATURE RIFLE ASSOCIATION

SUCCESSFUL SEASON There was a big attendance of delegates at the third annual meeting of the Southland Miniature Rifle Association. Mr D. G. Davies presided. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet which showed a credit balance of £24 2/7, the president stated that the season had been most successful, 30 clubs being affiliated with the association, an increase of 10 from the previous season, with an indication of more clubs being formed this season. He also referred to the fact that there were now about 1500 riflemen in Southland, who, in the event of war, would be of great value to the country and it would be an advantage if the Government was to give more assistance to rifle clubs generally. The present champion rifle shot of the Ist Battalion, Southland Regiment, belonged to a rifle club and had been coached by the association secretary, Mr A. Pomeroy. He hoped that all members of the Southland Regiment would join the Regimental Miniature Rifle Club and make themselves more efficient with the rifle. Mr W. Aitken andMrC.T. Ruddenklau also spoke, stating that the standard of sporting in Southland was as high as anywhere in New Zealand, several Southland competitors having obtained prizes in both the South Island and New Zealand championships. A motion that rule (10c) be altered to read: “To elect a president, deputypresident, secretary and five others, who shall form an executive or management committee which shall control the association for the ensuing year” was defeated by 12 votes to nine. It was decided that the inner carton be used on all targets in association competitions and clubs be recommended to use them for club competitions.

The question of rules for the 1.C.1. Cup and Times Shield was held over until the first meeting of the executive, the secretary to prepare suggested rules and forward them to all clubs.
