END OF FINANCIAL YEAR IN BRITAIN

DEATH DUTIES SHORT OF ~ ESTIMATE

(British Official Wireless) RUGBY, March 29. The financial year will end at midnight on Friday. Up to last Saturday the total ordinary revenue amounted to £906,108,619. This was an increase of nearly £48,000,000 on a year ago, but was still £38,500,000 short of the Budget estimate.

» The principal source in which the revenue has fallen short of the estimates is death duties, which so far have yielded £76,140,000 compared with £58,780,000 a year ago and the estimate of £88,000,000.

The total expenditure, less selfbalancing items and sinking funds, is £917,109,922, compared with £826,408,061 a year ago.

Ordinary expenditure alsp looks like being less than the total budgeted for and provided by the Supplementary Estimate, which was £951,725,000.
