THE WEATHER

Changeable with Showers

(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, March 31. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland by the meteorological office, Wellington:— Winds between north-west and south-west moderate mainly, but strong at times. Weather changeable with occasional, but mainly light, showers. Temperatures cool to moderate. Seas rather rough to rough.

Following is the Dominion forecast:— Mainly fair to fine and mild in eastern districts, changeable in western districts, more especially off the South Island and in the far south, with scattered but mainly light rains and moderate to cool temperatures. General Situation. —Pressure is still relatively high to the north, while a shallow westerly depression has been crossing the South Island. This latter is being followed by a Secondary-. Winds. —North-west to south-west prevailing, moderate mainly, but strong at times in exposed positions especially about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Seas.—ln New Zealand waters rough in Cook and Foveaux Straits and rather rough at times in the west coast of the South Island. Elsewhere, slight to moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea west to south-west winds predominating, moderate mainly - with slight to moderate seas, but freshening at times in southern portions with rather rough seas.

The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine and sunny but a southwesterly wind blew for the greater part of the day. At one o’clock this morning the : weather was calm and mild. The barometer readings for the last three mornings have been as follows:— This morning (steady) 29.84 in. Friday 29.49 in. Thursday 29.81 in.
