DOCTORS’ ATTITUDE HARDENING?
OPPOSITION TO SOCIAL SECURITY ACT (United Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, March 31. The doctors in Taranaki, it is understood, are unanimously opposed to the Social Security Act as far as it affects them through the medical benefits. A recent statement in the Press to the effect that they were in agreement with the Government proposals is emphatically denied. It was stated tonight that, if anything, the attitude of the doctors was hardening against the Government proposals and that indications, as one doctor put it, pointed to an early “show down.” One Taranaki doctor said tonight that the Government was very slow in submitting full details to the profession. Some details of the scheme were known to the doctors, but not all, including some of the more important. Taranaki doctors met at Stratford last night when the agenda paper for the conference of doctors'at Wellington next Wednesday was discussed. It was decided that Taranaki would fall into line with whatever decision the conference reached.
