DISSATISFACTION OF STAFF

COMPLAINTS OF RAILWAY OFFICERS (United Press Association) WANGANUI, March 31. Dissatisfaction with several features of railway management was expressed when the resignation of Mr J. S. Roscoe, the First Division representative of the Railway Appeal Board, was discussed at a special general meeting of the Wanganui branch of the Railway Officers’ Institute today. The following motions were passed: “That , this meeting expresses full confidence in Mr Roscoe concerning his action in resigning his position on the Appeal Board and that he be asked to stand for re-election. Further, that this branch expresses concern at the dissatisfaction in the methods of promotion, maladministration and chaotic conditions in staff matters, long delays in dealing with grievances, including appeals lodged, the management’s refusal of the right of appeal, especially in one case where a member has been dismissed and a majority decision of the Appeal Board held that there is a right of appeal.”

In addition the meeting unanimously agreed that strong representations be made to the Government to accelerate the setting up of a tribunal which the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) has already agreed to set up to deal with staff grievances
