OHAI

NEW BOWLING GREEN CLOSED MATCH PLAYED AGAINST NIGHTCAPS The new bowling green of the re-cently-formed Ohai Bowling Club was officially closed when a team was present from Nightcaps and played a friendly game against the Ohai members. A big number of local residents was present to witness the game. The green which has only been made playable since the New Year was favourably commented on by the visitors considering the short period of existence. At the conclusion of play Mr J. Broome, president, thanked the visitors for their attendance. This was the last day of play before closing for topdressing and so on, he said. The hope that there would be an increased membership next year was expressed by Mr Broome and he also hoped that more young people would take on the game. The present membership stood at 30 and the wish was expressed for double that number next year when the green would be in splendid order. In reply, Mi- Sheddan, on behalf of the Nightcaps visitors, expressed thanks for the hospitality extended to them. Although beaten on this occasion they hoped to turn the tables at the next meeting. He regretted that with the formation of this club six of Nightcaps best members who resided in Ohai would be lost but he wished the club every success in the future. Mr J. Hughes said he would like to take the opportunity of expressing appreciation on behalf of the Ohai citizens for the splendid work done by the pioneers of the club in laying down the green. The detailed scores of the friendly game were:— O. N.
