THE GOVERNMENT AND FARMERS

To The Editor Sir, —I am asking for some space in your paper to reply to the criticism of the Balfour branch of the Labour Party that 90 per cent, of the newspapers were in open hostility to the Government’s policy. I would ask the Balfour branch through you if the papers are not justified in some of their criticism of the Government’s treatment of the farmers, as the Labour Party has only half carried out its platform promises. Will the Balfour blanch tell your readers if it is possible for the unbalanced administration of the present—farmers against city—to continue without the present burden of the farmers being increased to the extent that they will be unable to carry on? Will the branch explain how the policy is in the best interests of all; also how many disappointed Labour voters in the farming community were in the 130,000 majority. As some of the members of the branch are farmers, they should know the returns from their farms. Can they say that Labour’s policy is in the best interests of all and justify that with figures?— Yours, etc., DISAPPOINTED LABOUR VOTER. March 31. 1939.
