ALDERSHOT IN FAVOUR

BROWN CLOUD NOT TO RACE AHURIRI STILL RACING AT AGE OF 20 YEARS

A good number of Southland horses are being kept in work with a view to racing at the Forbury Park winter meeting. Will Not Start

The three-year-old, Brown Cloud will not be started at the Otautau meeting today. He became entangled m some wire during the week.

Peggotty Peggotty, who is reported to be exceptionally well at the moment, is now trained by her owner, as J. Behrens has set up as a public trainer at Methven. She should earn some money when the tighter limits rule. The Durbar Handicap

The Durbar Handicap at Addington today is regarded as a fairly open race. Fine Art is expected to return to the form he displayed in the spring. Horsepower recently showed indication or retrieving some of the £lOOO paid for him and Sandusky will also be in demand. Colonel Grattan, Silver Guy and Gallant Knight should help to make it an interesting race, and there are other smart pacers also engaged. Ahuriri Still Racing

-The Australian Trotting Record states:—ln Adelaide on Saturday night Ahuriri made a reappearance. This horse won the New Zealand Sapling Stakes for two-year-olds in 1922 in 3min 33sec, and later, among other races, won two New Zealand Cups and an Auckland Cup. He has sired progeny in New Zealand and Tasmania, where two by him won at the one meeting recently. Foaled in 1919, a great racehorse like Ahuriri, who paced two miles in 4min 20 3-ssec in 1928, deserves a better fate than racing late at night in 2min 26sec classes in 1939. Threc-Year-Old Classic

Three-year-old racing is always full of interest, and while Aidershot in the earlier part of the season showed himself an exceptional pacer, with some of the weaknesses always associated with youngsters, he appears to be the outstanding performer engaged in the richly-endowed Futurity Stakes at the Ashburton meeting at Addington today. He is a stayer, and if he can be taken to the front early in the proceedings he may make a one-horse race of it. He is lucky to be without the opposition W Nelson Eddy, who would race every inch of the journey, states The Press, Christchurch. Honestus is the j hope of the strong C. S. Donald stable, and the half-brother to Plutus, a winner at Wellington, may be a strong I fancy. Special Edition has speed and stamina above the average, but in j his races has not displayed any marked ability at the barrier. He must be taken on trust in the hope that his trainer, R. J. Humphreys, has worked a big improvement. Coquette is a speedy young: pacer from F. G. Holmes’s stable, and in this case she will have expert reinsmanship to assist her. Wainoni Girl, with F. Holmes in the sulky, may be in a place, and while Shadow Son has not raced up to expectations he may have. developed in a few months. Shadow Boy, Busted Flush and Revision have all shown promise, but with any luck in the running Aidershot should beat Honestus and Coquette.
