MATCH FOR BURNETT SHIELD BIG CROWD OF SPECTATORS AT CRICKET MATCH A match for the Burnett Shield was played at Queenstown between two local teams in perfect weather. The biggest crowd of spectators seen for many years watched an interesting game. Railway, the challenger, won the toss and batted first, compiling 120 runs (Shepherd 33, Taylor 24) against good fielding and bowling by Queenstown (Lynch five for 50, Nelson three for 28). Queenstown replied with 265 for nine wickets (Nelson 53, Anderson 52, Robins 31 not out). Railway’s bowling apart from Mason’s five for 67 did not appear to be very good.
