ON INVERCARGILL TRACKS

SOUND MILE TRIAL BY FOXLOVE AMELITA’S USEFUL SPRINT TASK The final trials for horses engaged at the Otautau meeting tomorrow were the centre of interest at the Invercargill tracks yesterday morning. The course proper was in fast order, with the poles out about 20 feet, and some useful work was accomplished. Sea Lady and Pink Bond were responsible for the best six furlong trials while on the plough Foxlove and Waitoru put up a particularly good gallop over a mile. Amelita (Strathern) beat Sparkle by three lengths over six furlongs in Imin 18 4-ssec, the last half in 53 l-ssec. Amelita always had the measure of her mate and she completed her task comfortably. Sparkle has improved with recent work. On her own Sea Lady (Barclay) ran six furlongs in Imin 17 3-ssec, the first two in 25sec, and the last half in 52 3-ssec. She was staying on at the post. Wild Career (Barclay) jumped off at the seven and was picked up by Brilliant Boa at the six. The seven was run in Imin 32 2-ssec, the last half in 52 2-ssec and the last six in Imin 18 2-5 sec. Wild Career was going very easily at the finish but it was quite a good trial for Brilliant Boa. Rollem (Ward) and Ocean Singer (Low) were together at the end of half a mile in 52sec, Ocean Singer being held back to his mate, who has only been in a short time. Ocean Singer has been schooled in recent weeks and he appears to be all the better for it. Milford (R. Humphries) and Ardmayle (Preston) jumped off at the mile post running the first six in Imin 23sec, the mile in Imin 50sec and the last half in 54sec. It was an easy task for Milford, who was under a strong hold at the finish. It was quite a pleasing effort for Ardmayle considering the calibre of his mate. Pink Bond (Clutterbuck) beat Norwood (Barclay) by four or five lengths over six furlongs in Imin 17 4-ssec, the last half in 52 2-ssec. Pink Bond was staying on and this was one of her best track efforts for some time. She will have to be considered in her Otautau engagements. ON THE PLOUGH Foxlove (Baker) and Waitoru (Barclay) finished together at the end of a mile in Imin 46sec, the first three in 39 l-ssec, the half in 52 l-ssec and the last half in 53 4-ssec. The race he had on Saturday has sharpened Foxlove up and he was eager to do better. It was also a first-class trial for Waitoru, who has come into strong favour for the Southern Champion Hack Handicap. Galleon (W. Ellis) and Mona’s Song (Preston) sprinted half a mile in 54sec, finishing together under a good hold. Galleon who went off in his work last week is freshening up again but Mona’s Song does not look as well as she did earlier in the year. Both were withdrawn from the Riverton Cup field. Gold Robe (Baker) sprinted half a mile in 53 l-ssec, and did it well. On the course proper and next the rails the Irish Lancer-Brightmark filly led the two yearlings, Noko (Sir Sim-per-Dark Marie) and Garnui (Gam-ish-Mapui) home in a sprint essay. The Irish Lancer filly is an outstanding youngster and has an excellent style of galloping. El Caballo (Boyle) and Impel (Taylor) jumped four fences of the steeplechase course and completed their task in good style. Impel jumped particularly well. Baitruin (Boyle) jumped a couple of hurdles three times in the plumpton enclosure.

ALMA’S USEFUL MILE TRIAL DRINK UP AND ATUA RERE WELL FORWARD There was a white frost at Wingatui yesterday morning, and work was late in starting. The plough track was again in fast condition, and the outside grass track was also open for fast work, states The Evening Star, Dunedin. Pink Robe easily accounted for Spearthrust, the latter not ridden out, over five furlongs on the plough, the last half-mile taking 54sec. Alma was sent a mile on the outside grass track in Imin 49 l-ssec. She had only a lightweight up, and ran the last half-mile in 59 l-ssec. Disband and Green Boa were under a strong hold all the way ovei six furlongs in Imin 27sec, the last half-mile in 57sec. Drink Up and Atua Rere were ridden right out to run six furlongs in Imin 16 2-ssec, and finished practically on even terms. They ran the first two furlongs in 25 l-ssec and three in 38sec. Final Bell, who ran the first three furlongs in 35sec, took Imin 30sec to run seven furlongs with Hanlon, who was going much the better at the finish. Norseman, who was not paid up for on the first day of the Riverton meeting, looks very well just now, and was allowed to run along half a mile in 63sec. Adina went fast over the early stages of six furlongs to record Imin 19sec for the journey. Aravane easily accounted for Royal Style over six furlongs in Imin 19 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 53 2-ssec. Valantua and New Note ran the first two furlongs in 24 l-ssec, first three in 36 l-ssec, and the full task of six furlongs in Imin 16 3-ssec. Valantua had New Note beaten when half the journey had been covered, and has benefited by his racing at Oamaru. A large number of horses was given easy to three-quarter-pace work.
