SAVAGE ASSAULT ON WOMAN

MAN ENTERS KITCHEN (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 22. A young married woman was the victim of a savage assault by a man in her kitchen early this afternoon in Church street, Ponsonby. She told the police that a man went uninvited into her kitchen and while she was examining a cake in the oven he struck her over the head with a bottle and then gripped her by the throat until she became unconscious. When she recovered she staggered round the house and collapsed over the gate. Her dishevelled state attracted the attention of a passer-by, who summoned the police and a doctor. The woman herself was still too dazed tonight to be interviewed. A woman passer-by told a constable that the woman’s head was covered in blood when she first saw her and that her clothing and some scratches and some finger-marks on her neck indicated that she had been attacked, although ■ not seriously hurt about the head. . . The woman who had been the victim of the assault is suffering a good deal from shock. It is understood that a suspect was subsequently arrested.
