STATISTICS FOR LAST MONTH GRANT OF £5O FROM MacKINNON TRUST Reports of the medical superintendents of the various institutions under the control of the Southland Hospital Board were received at yesterday s meeting of the board. The acting medical superintendent ot the Southland Hospital (Dr H. Hunter) reported that there were 129 patients remaining in hospital at January 31. During the month of February 236 patients were admitted, 240 were, discharged and 12 died, leaving 113 remaining on February 28. The total number treated during the month was 365. , . The matron (Miss J. Ross) reported that donations had been received from the Red Cross Society (tobacco), Dr S. E. V. Brown, Mr McVictor, Mrs Bateman, Miss R. Smith, Miss Murphy, a friend (books), Mrs Chambers (flowers), Mr White, a former patient (rocking horse for children’s ward). The medical superintendent of the Gore Hospital (Dr J. E. Rogers) reported that 26 patients were in hospital on February 1 and 74 were admitted during the month, making a total of 100 under treatment. Seventythree were discharged during February and on March 1 there were 27 remaining. The matron (Miss V. A. Fox) reported that donations of fruit, books, flowers and magazines had been received from Mr Hedley, Mrs T. Sim, Mrs G. Gerken (Knapdale) and the McNab Women’s Institute. The medical superintendent of the Riverton Hospital (Dr E. S. Fossey) reported that there were 27 patients remaining on February 1, and 36 were admitted during the month, making a total of 63 under treatment. Thirtyfive were discharged during the month and one died. On March 1 there were 27 remaining. The matron (Miss E. Gedney) reported that donations of flowers had been received from Mrs McFarlane (Fairfax), Presbyterian Church, Mr Burtenshaw, Mrs Ballantyne, Miss Gould (Otautau), Mrs Plummer, and magazines had been received from the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, Tuatapere. The acting medical superintendent of the Lake County Hospital (Dr R. G. Macdonald) reported that there were 12 patients in hospital on February 1 and 15 were admitted during the month, making a total of 27 under treatment. Sixteen were discharged and there were 11 remaining on March 1. The matron of the Dee street Hospital (Miss C. M. Fitzgibbon) reported that there were 87 patients in the institution on February 1 and 36 were admitted during the month, the. total under treatment being 123. During the month 25 were discharged and five died. The number remaining on March 1 was 93. Donations of books and flowers had been received from Mrs R. Dunlop, Mrs A. Gibson and Miss Ramsay.

The public trustee advised that it had been decided to allocate to the Southland Hospital Board the sum of £5O for the coming year from the MacKinnon Trust.

The meeting was attended by Mr T. Golden (chairman), Mrs A. Henderson, Misses H. L. Birss and H. L. Hunt, Messrs W. Clark, J. S. A. McDougall, A. McKenzie, J. W. Miller, A. T. Newman, J. H. Smith, F. Trapski, G. A. Wraytt and Dr J. A. Pottinger.
