UNIVERSAL PLAN FOR INSURANCE
POPULARITY DOUBTED IN AUSTRALIA OPINION OF AUCKLAND DOCTOR (Special to The Times) AUCKLAND, March 14. The opinion that the general Australian public did not want a universal insurance scheme similar to that about to come into force in New Zealand was expressed by Dr Frank Macky, of Auckland, who returned from a brief visit to Australia by the Awatea. All that was wanted was a scheme which would provide'for those really in need of such insurance. At the present time the Australian scheme was held up purely on the grounds of finance and not because of its medical provisions, Dr Macky added. The Australian scheme was much smaller in scope than the New Zealand one and it was likely that it would be even more limited when it was finally put into effect. It would be divorced from the pensions provisions, which would be handled separately.
