CLAIM FOR £3500 DAMAGES
ACTION AGAINST BLUFF BOROUGH COUNCIL
A writ claiming £3500 damages and funeral expenses from the Mayor, council and burgesses of the borough of Bluff was issued yesterday by Mr Eustace Russell on behalf of Greta Molloy, widow of Walter H. Molloy, who was killed by electric shock while acting as a member of the Bluff Municipal Fire Brigade at a fire on October 25, and three infant children. The claim is for financial loss alleged to have been incurred in the death of Mrs Molloy’s husband, and the writ has been issued under the provisions of the Deaths By Accident Compensation Act 1908. It is based on the following alleged acts of negligence on the part of the defendants:— (1) That the defendants or their servants negligently omitted to cut off the supply of electric power on the buildings burned and adjacent buildings. (2) The failure of the defendants to equip members of the Bluff Fire Brigade with insulated rubber gloves or other safety appliances.
