Cool and Changeable
(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, February 12. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate to strong west to southwest winds. Weather cool and changeable with scattered showers mainly in coastal areas. Seas rough but moderating. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather mainly fair to fine and mild at first, but rain developing in tire western and far southern districts of the South Island, and gradually becoming more widespread. General situation.—Pressure is still high over south-eastern Australia and across the North Tasman Sea to northern New Zealand, but a depression has developed over the South Tasman and is moving on to the South Island. Winds.—West to north-west predominating, moderate in the northern half of the North Island, elsewhere moderate to strong and in places reaching gale force. A change to strong southerlies advancing later from the south.
Seas.—New Zealand waters, rough south of Cape Egmont and in Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere slight to moderate but later rising on the east coast of the South Island. Eastern Tasman Sea, variable winds and slight to moderate seas in the northern portion, moderate to strong northerly winds in the central and southern portions, turning soon to southerlies with rather rough seas.
