COMPETITORS ARRIVE FROM NORTH HEATS FOR FIRST DAY The members of the Auckland, Wanganui and Nelson swimming teams who are competing in the New Zealand swimming championships next week, and two members of the Canterbury team arrived in Invercargill yesterday. They include Messrs P. Hannan, P. A. Mathieson, N. Crump and A. Pascoe (Auckland), L. Smith (Wanganui), J. J. Frank and D. Kerr (Nelson), C. Cliff, L. Newell (Canterbury), and D. Freeman (Otago). The Wellington team (H. Hatchwell, F. Pennington, K. Spry and Miss S. Gottlieb), is expected to arrive today. The women swimmers undertaking the instructional tour of New Zealand are also expected to arrive today. They are: Miss Joyce Macdonald (Southland), Misses M. Ley don and K. Gray (Auckland), and Miss W. Dunn (Otago).

Mr W. O. Stockley, of Auckland, will represent the Bureau of Swimming Instruction of New Zealand at the championships. Mr Stockley was one of the originators of the national leam-to-swim campaign. HEATS FOR TUESDAY Several heats are to be swum on Tuesday, the first day of the championships. They are:— One mile, men.—First heat: A. W. Pascoe (Auckland), L. Newall (Canterbury), C. Kidd (Otago), J. J, Frank (Nelson). Second heat: W. Johnston (Southland), A. T. Stokes (Canterbury), P. A. Mathieson (Auckland), G. Usher (Auckland), P. Young (Otago). 220 Yards Men’s Breaststroke.—First heat: L. Smith (Wang.), D. Shanahan (S.C.), K. Spry (W.), W. Dyson (O.). Second heat: J. C. W. Davies* (T.), K. Shaw (S.), K. Horsfall (C.).

100 Yards Men.—First heat: N. Crump (A.), D. T. Davis (S.), R. Hatchwell (W.), A. C. Millar (S.). Second heat: P. Hannan* (A.), A. Pascoe (A.), F. W. Springford (S.) W. B. Milne (T.), F.
